I wasn’t going to do this, it may be hard to keep up with things in the next few weeks, but, I just have to, there have been some stand out performances today! Including a century from my favourite player outside of Essex and one for an Essex opener too.

There were 6 matches today, in 4 of those the team batting second won the toss, in the other 2, they batted. In all 6 matches the team batting first won, that’s going to be food for thought in the next round.

I’m not going to bore you with lots of words on this one, just a list of games, with team scores, results and their Star Men (100 or over in this competition and 5 wickets or over). Oh and I am going to include some snippets from The Cricketer’s Who’s Who 2019.

Yorkshire 379 for 7 v Leicestershire 166 All Out

Paul Horton won the toss and put Yorkshire in to bat, the score above for the visitors pretty much tells us there weren’t any star batsmen, not were there any bowlers. Yorkshire however have 3 to list. Leicestershire were out in 29.3 overs. This was the third century for Gary Ballance this season.

Lancashire 242 All Out v Worcestershire 367 All Out

Brett D’Oliveira won the toss and elected to bat. 3 star men from the Worcestershire innings which lasted for 49.1 overs. Keaton Jennings had the highest score for Lancashire with 54, Glenn Maxwell is worthy of a mention with 35 from 21 balls, a strike rate of 166.67. Lancashire were bowled out in 40.4 overs. This was both Mitchell and Rutherford’s second century this season.

Durham 345 for 5 v Northamptonshire 270 All Out

Alex Wakely won the toss and put Durham in to bat, 342 in 50 overs is a decent score and this innings produced the 2 stand out performances. Northants were bowled out in 43.5 overs.

• Michael Richardson – 102 from 96 Balls – Strike Rate 106.25

Gloucestershire 235 All Out v Surrey 88 All Out

Chris Dent won the toss and elected to bat, this result and the Surrey score must be one of the most amazing of the day, they batted for only 24 overs and the highest score was the 19 made by Jason Roy. No centuries for Glamorgan, but they did enough to win this match, I imagine their dressing room was a very happy place after their victory.

Glamorgan 146 All Out v Essex 326 for 7

This was the ground which saw 1,390 runs in the County Championship match over the weekend. Having been playing with the second XI Varun Chopra opened the Essex innings with Alastair Cook. He’s the only player to make the Star Men list, his strike rate tells us that he anchored the Essex innings. Glamorgan were bowled out in 31 overs.

Kent 220 All Out v Hampshire 310 for 9

Heino Kuhn won the toss and put Hampshire in to bat, the Kent faithful then had the prospect of their ex-captain Sam Northeast (he of my favourite player outside of Essex tag) bat for nearly 25 overs. This was his second century of the ‘summer’
