The first round of the PWR Cup series saw a first run out for Trailfinders, they had an early penalty converted, taking a lead.
Saracens responded quickly with their first try after a lovely kick from Amelia MacDougal, caught nicely by Isla Alejandro Who juggled but scored.
Trailfinders hit back with a try for Rosie Inman after a lovely kick out to the wing, the winger passed the ball back inside for a walk in try. Emma Taylor converted the try to see Trailfinders take a 5 point lead.
Trailfinders had a concerted attack, only to be halted by giving away a penalty which was swiftly reversed, I can only think for back chat. A massive mistake from a Saracens on their own line, Trailfinders scored through Abbie Burton. The conversion hit the posts.
Saracens gave away another couple of penalties, then another in the line out, allowing Trailfinders to progress into the Saracens 22. The line out went long and was missed by everyone but the ball ended up in touch, thrown by the Trailfinders.
Saracens were awarded a penalty in the resulting line out, but failed to win the ball, Trailfinders knocked on and Saracens were then awarded a penalty in the scrum.
A further penalty came for a high tackle, the ball was lost then knocked on by Saracens in the line out. Trailfinders attacked, with a couple of quite forward looking passes, before Saracens gave away another penalty. The throw in wasn’t straight, giving Saracens a scrum put in. Poppy Cleall emerged with the ball but was hauled down, Trailfinders defended well close to the Saracens line, the ball was knocked on by Saracens in tandem with them giving away a penalty.
With 28 minutes on the board Saracens had seen very little in the way of positive possession.
The line out throw was awry again, Saracens got outside of their own 22 before a Sarah McKenna kick took them into the Trailfinders half. A pass by the same player was intercepted but ultimately knocked on by Trailfinders. Saracens were awarded a penalty in the scrum.
The ball was lost forwards giving Trailfinders a scrum put in. The Number 8 who’d been impressive took the ball from the base of the scrum. But the ball was then knocked on. Saracens attack was kicked forwards but they were playing on a penalty. May Campbell took the ball from the line out jumper, passed to Poppy C who passed back for her to score. The conversion was good and at 37 minutes the score was Saracens 12 Trailfinders 15.
That was the score at half-time, Saracens were going forwards as the whistle went.
Poppy C put in an excellent kick just after half-time, returned by Trailfinders the line out was on half-way. Trailfinders gave away a penalty in the ruck. McDougall put on a good kick, Saracens won the ball and were awarded a penalty for a dangerous tackle. Saracens drove over the line from the line out, Bryony Field was in possession of the ball. The kick was good and Saracens were in the lead for the first time in the game.
Saracens looked in much better form in the early stages of the 2nd half. Trailfinders were walked back 10 helping Saracens gain some good territory. Trailfinders came away with the ball however, as Saracens rolled ahead with the ball.
Poppy C then scored a worldie! Kicking the ball over the defence she caught it and ran in to score, a try that’ll be hard to beat this season! The conversion was good and Saracens had an 11 point lead.
Trailfinders kicked the ball out on the full taking the line out back into their own half.
There was a Saracens interception but Trailfinders won the ball back on the ground. The ball was kicked to touch by MacDougall after Saracens won that ball back. A knock out in the line out saw a Saracens scrum.
Poppy C had been replaced by Bryony C, who’d gone off earlier, Poppy then replaced the Joia Bennett The Jack in The Box Clealls!
Trailfinders had a couple of good looking attacks but gave away a penalty after an excellent tackle from Alejandro. Saracens then gave away their own penalty.
Saracens knocked on in midfield,turned the scrum, which was then re-set. Saracens then pushed the next scrum and Trailfinders were awarded a free kick. The ball was knocked on as they progressed.
Saracens scored their 5th try after a couple of quick penalties, and of course it was Brony C putting the ball down. The twins had both had a great game.
Trailfinders had another couple of forays but a forward pass put paid to their attack. However Jess Cooksey scored for Trailfinders after some lovely offloading. The kick was missed and the final whistle blown, the final score was Saracens 33 Trailfinders 20
