I live in Chelmsford so watched the rain fall all day – I knew it was highly unlikely that cricket would happen that day. However I had a hugely unusual invite to partake of hospitality for the game, so went along to the ground.
This is really to make note of the fact that there should have been a game and that I did spend the evening at the County Ground.
An observation of the evening – there were maybe 12 tables, there were 3 women on one table then I was the only other woman in the room. Cricket really is very male orientated.
I had a very enjoyable evening in good company, we chatted sport of course which was great! As the players weren’t called upon to play, we did have a visit from Tom Westley, Ravi Bopara, Nick Browne and Ryan ten Doeschate.
It was interesting to hear Ravi’s opinion that although both Tom and Nick have the ability to play for England the wickets they’ve been playing on means it’s unlikely that they’ll be spotted as they can’t get into the number of runs needed to become of interest.
Just a few generic Essex Cricket photos for an unusually brief ‘Event’. The non event meant that Essex gained the single point they needed to take them into the next round. A semi-final spot in Birmingham awaits
