Having decided not to follow England in 2022 I’d had a carry over for Edgbaston where England lost and I couldn’t a ‘day’ at the Oval for this match. A 100 over match that lasted for just 44 overs, this was another white ball game dominated by the bowlers, well, the India bowlers at least! This will be another ‘article’ that’s more about the photos than the words.
As a Surrey member I was able to sit in the pavilion, I wasn’t expecting to be directly behind the wicket, I suppose that was a blessing in many ways, I at least couldn’t see most of the England innings, but I do love a photo of the bails flying, but nope, I couldn’t see that, so, photos of India celebrating mostly as they literally demolished this England batting line up. My view was Pants pants or the umpire’s back until I moved to a friends’ seat for the India innings.
A quick precis of the England innings, Jason Roy was bowled by Burma, a 5 ball Duck this time, his wasn’t the only Duck as Joe Root last 2 balls, Ben Stokes went for a 1st ball Duck and Liam Livingstone an 8th ball Duck. Johnny Barstow lasted 20 balls before being caught by Pant, she’d also caught Root and Stokes. Jos Buttler top scored with 30 from 32 balls as England were bowled out in 25.2 overs for a woeful 110. The wonderful Jasprit Bumrah took 6 for 19 run-in his 7.2 overs, he only really smiled once he reached his 5th!
A better view for the India innings, but no bails flying shots as there were no wickets taken! Rohit Harmer scored 76 from 58 balls, he’s not just a great captain! He as ably supported by Shikhar Drawn who scored 31 from 54 balls and India had the required runs in 18.4 overs!
My foray into watching England wasn’t great this summer, I missed an Alastair Cook on this day too! But, at least this article is finished in time for me to watch England Rugby play rugby! England won both the following T20 and ODI, perhaps it was me!
